Mission: Being better tomorrow than today
GSaME (Graduate School of Excellence advanced Manufacturing Engineering) is a central scientific institution of the University of Stuttgart and has been funded under the Excellence Initiative since 2007.
The Graduate School, as an institution, takes care of the content and the organization of research work and the qualification of doctoral researchers in advanced Manufacturing Engineering. It promotes young scientists in a straightforward way on the basis of a specifically developed cooperative, interdisciplinary doctoral program.
The Graduate School aims to provide an excellent environment for doctoral research and education, leading to a Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing) or Doctor of Economics and Social Science (Dr. rer. pol.) degree within four years, and fosters qualified young scientists through a model which not only supports scientific work but additionally teaches methodical skills in both domain-specific and extracurricular fields. The Graduate School offers structured, transparent and appropriate supervision and so helps to achieve the desired research and qualification goals within a four-year period of doctoral studies.
The research work is to produce original and innovative contributions that are made externally visible to expand the current scientific and technical knowledge in advanced Manufacturing Engineering. The qualification of the doctoral researchers follows the proven principles of personal responsibility, independence and self-organization and enables the doctoral researchers to work methodically and think analytically, while promoting their inclination to interdisciplinary work.
The underlying principle of dual education, which is applied for the first time in this particular form, is implemented in cooperation with renowned companies and research institutions and gives a vocational direction to the doctoral studies at GSaME.
