Approach

A particular feature of the Graduate School is that it follows the dual education system.

This is breaking new ground by promoting cooperative, interdisciplinary research in companies, institutes of the University of Stuttgart and applied research institutions while offering training accompanied and governed by research activities and based on a specific training program for doctoral researchers from Engineering, Management or Computer Science, combining theory and practice, technology and management, research and application.

The main advantage of this approach for the doctoral researchers consists in:

  • Development of skills and knowledge needed to qualify for an academic career while meeting the demands of a labor market outside the scope of science.
  • The integration into a high-performance research environment, specific supervision, and a training program that is carefully matched to the individual abilities of the doctoral researchers and the requirements of their research topic, including specialist and interdisciplinary training, will foster personal responsibility and self-reliance of the doctoral researchers and enhance their skills to master new content.
  • They are expected to work systematically, to seek exchange on related subjects and research approaches, and to master complexity, enabling the successful accomplishment of research and training goals.
